Vangelis Vassalakis

He studied photography and audiovisual arts in Focus with teachers, among others, the photographers Nikos Markou, Takis Zerdevas, Kostas Kakarikos and Giorgos Kitsios, the painter Stavros Bonoutsos, directors Manthos Santorinaios and Giorgos Zervas and the script writer Vangelis Papadakis. He also studied Computer Science at the Business Administration Department of the American College of Southeastern Europe, where he attended photography courses by Laura Dodson and Pamela Brown. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, granted by the State University of Delaware.
Starting his educational career in 1998, he taught at Stavrakos School of Film and Television, at E.S.P. School of Photography, at several private organizations, embassies and commercial companies, and he also taught private lessons to journalists, artists and professional photographers.
He collaborated with PhotoNet and PHOTOgraphos magazines as a technical editor.
He has collaborated with numerous advertising companies of Athens.
He currently works in advertising and commercial photography with a clientele that includes, among others, pharmaceutical companies and medical organizations, beverage and food import companies, cosmetics and beauty companies, art workshops and individual artists, etc.
At the same time he delivers seminars and teaches private photography and film lessons in his studio.
He particularly appreciates the photographic works of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Richard Avedon, Minor White, Irving Penn, Elliot Porter, Eugene Atget, Lee Friedlander, Marie Cosindas, Garry Winogrand, Paul Caponigro and Ansel Adams. The Greek photographers he admires the most are Nikos Markou, Kostis Antoniades, Costas Coutayar and Kostas Koroneos.
In his professional assignments he uses a digital workflow;
as for his artistic works, he returned to the magic of film photography.
